Job Summary 

Manage a bridge construction project and crew. Oversee workmanship, safety and schedule. Work at various jobsites as projects change, generally in Iowa, and possibly Nebraska or Kansas. The work week is Monday to Friday and occasional weekends, usually 40-50 hours per week. Overnight stays may be required.

Specific Duties

  • Confer with management, prime/subcontractors and inspectors to coordinate all phases of the project
  • Plan procedures for construction project by studying specifications and blueprints
  • Order tools and materials at appropriate times to conform with work schedule
  • Inspect work and equipment to verify safety and quality
  • Track and control project to complete within budget, on time, and according to specifications
  • Implement company EEO, AA and HR policies when hiring and disciplining employees
  • Maintain a safe work site by enforcing all company policies and OSHA regulations
  • Perform general mechanical, carpentry and concrete work and operate survey equipment
  • Train new crew members, and others as needed, to perform tasks or operate equipment
  • Use a phone or tablet to check email and file reports for management such as time sheets, quantity reports, etc.
  • Read and understand Safety Data Sheets and container labels
  • Identify and communicate safety concerns to management in a timely manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management



  • High School graduate or G.E.D. preferred
  • Construction management courses at college or vocational tech school preferred
  • Five years experience in construction and two years experience in construction supervision 
  • Understand methods used to build bridges, heavy highway experience required, bridge experience preferred
  • OSHA 10-Hour certification preferred (will train)
  • CPR certification preferred (will train)
  • Valid Driver's License


  • Normal range of vision and hearing (with correction)
  • Effectively work at heights
  • Walk, stand, climb, bend, kneel, reach, lift and balance
  • Lift up to 75 pounds on a regular basis
  • Work safely in adverse weather conditions including wind, rain, snow, ice, mud, heat, etc.
